"A Senegalese poet said, 'In the end we will conserve only what we love. We love only what we understand and we will understand only what we are taught.' We must learn about other cultures in order to understand, in order to love and in order to conserve our common world heritage."

Yo-Yo Ma, Cellist

 Morehead Scholar's Amazing Story

Meredith Llentz inspires those who meet her. She radiates with energy and passion. One of a select group of Morehead Scholars chosen for their exceptional abilities and achievements, she is a committed young leader. Of over 1500 highly qualified nominees for the Morehead, Meredith was one of only 40 students chosen for the special four year fully-funded program at the University of North Carolina.

As part of her sophomore Public Service Summer Program, Meredith chose to teach in the GSC Thailand Program. She did so "without much thought - following in the footsteps of previous Morehead scholars who had gone on the GSC Thailand program."Little did she know, it would change the course of her life - and the lives of all those she touched and worked with - in particular, a special Thai teacher.

Read more about Meredith's adventures and how she raised money to bring her fellow Thai teacher, Tan, to the U.S. and create a Thai-US relationship with 24 schools.

 Summer Camps

HIV/AIDS Life Skills Summer Day Camps

These camps provide a framework for secondary school students to learn about HIV/AIDS, prevention, relationships and sexuality in a fun, creative, and ultimately sustainable manner. The discussion of HIV/AIDS continues throughout the year when the GSC volunteers leave, as student peers share their knowledge of HIV/AIDS with the rest of the school.

The Camps were a collaborative effort of GSC volunteers participants, teachers, school administrators, community members and peer educators...Read More

 2 Week Programs

Our new 2 week programs allow those with limited time or vacations to learn and serve abroad while living with local families.

As a guest of a generous Thai or Tanzanian family, you see the country as an insider - enjoying the tantalizing tastes of new cuisine and the warmth of the people. And you work on an education, health or environment service project.
